Services Offered
Doctors, Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses will offer Primary Health Care Services.
- People who do not currently have a family doctor and are experiencing mental health challenges or struggling with addiction or are a family with a low income or are an isolated senior or are a youth experiencing challenges, are invited to register to receive primary health care services and access to health promotion programs.
- People who have a family doctor are welcome to attend any of our health promotion programs.
Our Registered Dietitian provides expertise in food and nutrition.
Our Therapist provides confidential counselling.
Our Health Promoter develops and implements health education programs.
Our Community Health Worker leads, assists and/or supports action on community health issues.
Community Health Programs will also be available such as: Smoking Cessation Groups, Colour it Up, Education for people who have Asthma or Diabetes.
If you have a family physician, you are welcome to attend the community health programs offered at WACHC.
A range of programs and services such as those outlined below will be implemented over the course of 2010.
Services

Healthy people living in a healthy community go hand in hand. Our clinical services and health promotion programs include:
- Assessment and management of Health Conditions
- Ongoing Treatment of Chronic Illness (e.g. Diabetes and Heart Disease)
- Support for People with Terminal Illness
- Education and Support for Self Care
- Illness Prevention and Health Promotion
- After Hours On-Call Services
- Laboratory Services (e.g. blood tests)
- Influenza Vaccination (Flu Shot) Clinics
We offer nutrition counselling in healthy eating for:
- Nutritional counselling for all life stages and disease management/prevention
- Pregnancy and lactation (breast feeding)
- Diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure
- Food allergies and intolerances.
Examples of the group programs that the Dietitian will offer include:
- Nutrition education and cooking programs
- Collective Kitchens
Our Therapist provides confidential counselling sessions for people dealing with stressful life changes, family conflict, feelings of anxiety and depression and other concerns. Examples of the services that the Therapist will offer include:
- Counselling: Group, Individual and Family Counselling
- Self Help Groups to meet the needs of clients
Our Health Promoters will collaborate with other local agencies to identify opportunities to promote health and wellness through programs, groups and events.
Examples of the Services that the Health Promoter will offer include:
- Education and support for self care for people with conditions such as Asthma and Diabetes
- Community health promotion programs such as Smoking Cessation groups
- Health Events designed to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities
Our Community Health Worker will collaborate with other local agencies to identify community issues and develop/ implement programs to meet those needs, such as:
- Outreach Programs to meet the needs of youth and seniors
- Child, Youth and Family Events
The Community Health Worker also acts as a resource and advocate for individuals, groups and communities.
